Discover How Practicing Self-Love Directly Contributes to Your Success

Why Self-Love Makes Success Inevitable!

According to the six human needs, a strong desire for significance, certainty, or even uncertainty may signal that the need for love—especially self-love—has been neglected. This could stem from one or more reasons: feeling selfish for prioritizing yourself, being unaware of your own need for love, or struggling to believe in your own self-worth.

Which one of the reasons above resonates with you?

You don't need validation, verification, or justification—but what if I told you…

You are worthy.

You are enough.

You are valued.

You are appreciated.

You are loved.

Would you believe me? Does hearing these words activate any sense of self-love in you?

If the answer is no, you are right. In the end, what I say is merely my perspective. To responsibly and assertively own the statements above, they must be your perspective.

Self-love is essential to truly love others. Neglecting self-love doesn't mean you're loving others—it often means you're neglecting yourself, and putting others before you is sometimes more about you than it is about them. Perhaps you enjoy helping others, and at the same time, it's nice to feel needed. However, ignoring your own needs and well-being can lead to burnout. And when that happens, the people who rely on you won't get the care they need—because you won't have the energy to give.

Therefore, embracing self-love naturally leads to self-care, allowing you to stay strong for the people around you, those who need you, and those you love.

Here's the hard truth: self-love doesn't come naturally to many of us. From the moment we were born, we received love and care. We were nurtured and relied on others to meet our needs. We learn from our parents and caregivers that caring for others comes first. It's what we've always believed because it's what we saw growing up. No wonder practicing self-love doesn't come naturally to many of us.

Unless the opposite is true—what if you practice self-love because you saw your parents and caregivers embrace it? If so, what examples of self-love did you witness growing up?

To cultivate self-love, it must be activated as a practice. There are many ways to turn this practice into a habit. One of them is creating your own spa day. Since February is the month of "love", a spa day can be calming, relaxing, and rejuvenating—perfectly in tune with the February mood. The best part is that creating a spa day is something you can easily do from the comfort of your own home.

What does creating a spa day look like? Here's a short list. You may choose a couple of things from the following list, or you may choose to do all. The point of this exercise is to take the time out to practice self-love and care for yourself. Everything on the list requires time. Make yourself the important person.

  • Make yourself a special cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate—one that helps you embrace the very present moment, where you are sitting down with your feet up, relaxing, and enjoying your hot drink without thinking of doing anything else!
  • Making time for journaling for self-reflection first thing in the morning, alongside a hot cup of tea or coffee, makes the best start to your spa day.
  • Applying skin care, such as wearing a face mask if you don't normally have the time for it. Remember those free skincare promotional samples you received and tossed aside? Creating your spa day is the best time to try out these samples.
  • Take a bubble bath with Epsom salt that helps relax your muscles and regulate your nervous system.
  • Taking the time to tend to your hands and feet with a manicure and a pedicure can feel cleansing, relaxing, and nurturing.
  • Make the time to curl up under a cozy cover next to a fireplace or a heater and read the book you have always wanted to read because you've never had the time for it, and now, you do.

Every act of self-care, big or small, reinforces your worth. Which one will you start with? Would you be willing to choose one from the list and make it a weekly, biweekly, or monthly ritual?
