Secrets to Team Success—You've Got the Key!
If your team is feeling unmotivated or disconnected, there's a simple yet powerful method for turning things around—and it starts with a genuine connection.
Get to Know Your People Ensure you have one-on-one meetings each week. Set aside five minutes during these meetings to check in with each team member. Ask how they're doing and listen to what they share. It may seem like a small gesture, but it builds trust and shows your team they're valued. When you make these check-ins a priority, you're doing more than just gathering information—you're creating an environment where people feel cared for. When team members feel valued, they become more engaged, productive, and motivated. It's a win-win for both your team and your organization. Treat Your Team Like Your Clients Consider this: your team members are directly serving your clients, and by supporting them, you are indirectly serving those same clients. Many managers forget that they, too, are part of the client service cycle. When you listen to your team as attentively as you would to a client, you lead by example. By modelling active listening, you show your team how to engage effectively with their clients. This not only improves client satisfaction but also reminds your team that their work is meaningful. When people grasp the bigger picture, they feel more connected to their work. Lead by Example Motivation and inspiration flow from the top down. As a leader, your words and actions set the tone for the entire team. If you want a thriving, motivated team, demonstrate the values and habits you want to see. The world doesn't have to be in survival mode—your team deserves to thrive. Leading with empathy and attentiveness creates an environment where people feel empowered to do their best work. Celebrate Wins—Big or Small You don't have to wait until Employee Appreciation Day to celebrate wins—any time is the right time to foster self-appreciation and collective success. February, however, is the perfect month for it, as much emphasis is placed on self-love and self-care to promote wellness. Celebrate wins within your team, no matter how big or small. Here's a simple idea to get started: At your next team meeting, have everyone draw a name from a hat and take a moment to celebrate that person's recent win, best practice, or contribution to the team or organization. This allows everyone to be recognized for their contributions while allowing each team member to appreciate and celebrate one another's successes. If you're willing to acknowledge and celebrate those around you, you're cultivating a positive work culture filled with recognition and inspiration.
