Negative Thoughts & Self-Doubts
Have you ever found yourself grappling with doubts or negative thoughts? Do you ever wonder how they form?
A powerful question to ask yourself — and you can use this question when doubts or negative thoughts enter your mind — is this: “What is happening right in front of me?” An extended question may be, “And what is truer than what is happening in front of me?”
The truth is that doubts and negative thoughts are extensions of our minds and could be influenced by the ideas or opinions of others. From there, we may further form our ideas or opinions based on others’ thoughts. Instead of dealing with or responding to what is happening right before us, we are reacting to other people’s thoughts and actions, forming our own opinions around them, and then turning those opinions into beliefs about ourselves. Hence, the doubts and negative thoughts.
If we are unaware of how we recycle these thoughts, we can unconsciously let them become our beliefs. What we believe forms what we think or see as the truth.
When we stop for a moment to consider how a single doubt or negative thought enters our minds, we will begin to notice how it can affect our mood, communication, and livelihood throughout the day.
Allowing ourselves to sit with our doubts and negative thoughts only eats away at us, robbing us of any enjoyment we might have. They impede us from effectively making decisions or taking action. They take up a lot of our energy and headspace.
What appears most absurd is how willingly we give much of our headspace, energy, and focus to recycling other people’s thoughts and opinions, mixing in our own, and producing doubts and negative thoughts!
So, why not keep it simple? Separate our thoughts from what we think are other people’s thoughts.
Can you think of a situation where a doubt or a negative thought entered your mind during a conversation, perhaps while making a decision or an action you were about to take? Do you remember how it affected you at that moment? Or how it may have affected you at home or at work?
