Understand How Personal Motto Can Move You Closer Towards Your Personal Goals and Achievements.

Discover The Secret to Staying Focused and Committed Every Day: How To Show Up 100%

I recently completed additional professional development training. In one of the get-to-know-you activities, which I suppose is part of reflective learning training to improve yourself, one of the questions asked was, “What is your personal motto?”

It wasn’t hard for me to answer the question; I happen to have a couple of personal mottos. My first thought about the question was how much I liked it. The person who designed this activity was very thoughtful.

Not only does carrying a personal motto help us identify who we are, but it can also help us stay true to ourselves. It is as if we are wearing our very personal brand.

As for my response to the question, my personal motto is, “Show up.” Every day, I remind myself to show up and show up 100%.

Today I want to share about showing up and what it means for me.

So, what does “Showing up” 100% mean for me and what does it look like?

Here are some examples that remind me to show up every day:

1) Whenever I speak at an event, teach, or run a workshop, I’d show up for however many people that attended the event, class, or workshop. In fact, I learned this from motivational speaker Brendon Burchard. Ever since I heard him share this, I have followed his teaching. Even if only one or two people show up, I must show up 100%. Always speak or teach as if I am speaking to 100 people, even if only one person is attending. Whatever I prepared for, I must deliver 100%.

2) Showing up 100% requires me to ask if I am being 100%. If I am being any less or doing any less, then I know I am not being 100%. Here’s a specific example. Some mornings, I am tired and don’t want to make my bed. If I choose to slack off and not make my bed, that would be me not being 100%. Since I don’t want to be less than 100%, I make my bed to ensure that I am being 100%.

3) Being 100% requires me to be present at all times. It has me let go when I need to let go to allow me to stay focused and not be distracted by the small things – as in example #1, where I don’t need to be worried about other people not showing up. As long as I show up 100%, nothing else matters because this is my reality- everything in front of me- right here at this present time.

4) Being 100% has me stay organized – as in example #2. I stayed focused and organized, not letting fatigue or “I can’t be bothered” take over me. This allows me to stay true to myself.

My favourite part of the personal motto, “Show up,” continues to help me improve myself every day. It has allowed me to be present, bringing me further towards my goals. Along the way, it has even taught me to trust and have courage.

How about you? What is your personal motto?

This week, reflect on your positive, inspiring personal motto. Once you have identified your motto, try wearing it for three days. If you can handle three days, extend wearing it for another two more days. If you notice you can handle five days, then live by your personal motto for another five days.

The key is to build on positive habits and stick to commitments. Doing so in small increments activates our mind and body simultaneously to take action.

In a week or two, see what you have learned or discovered about yourself after becoming your personal motto. Journal your discovery and share in your journal what has inspired you throughout this journey.
