Find balance and step into 2025 with joy, ease, and flow!

Create certainty out of uncertain times to fulfill your need for love, growth, and contribution.

We’re just hours away from 2025, and it’s inevitable to feel a strong sense of uncertainty as we step into the new year. Excitement, nervousness, anxiety, concerns, the mystery of the unknown—these are all part of uncertainty. And uncertainty, as you know, is one of the six human needs.

Naturally, too much uncertainty can make us feel imbalanced in life. One way to restore balance when faced with too much uncertainty is to create certainty.

So, how do you create certainty in a way that’s simple, practical, and even affordable? Today, I’ll share tips to help you create certainty and find flow in the short-term.

Is there any creative hobby or interest you work on and often you don’t feel you have the time to do it?

Or is there a hobby you have been wanting to take up and you have never felt it’s the right time to try it? Like myself, I have not painted since I was a teenager.

Whenever I see my daughter painting—and she paints so well, creating countless beautiful and vivid pieces—I admire every single one. I often wish I could do the same.

Over the holiday, I suggested we paint together just for fun. It’s not only a way to spend time but also an opportunity for me to slow down, cultivate patience, regenerate healing energy, and experience a therapeutic and meditative state.

Simultaneously, from painting together with my daughter, I am experiencing and fulfilling the following needs: certainty, uncertainty, love, growth, and even contribution.

How is it possible to fulfill these needs all at the same time?

Certainty: Through painting, I am creating a sense of security for myself. It’s something that engages me and allows me to be present. I feel good about it, and it makes me happy.

Uncertainty: From the moment I start painting and throughout the entire process, I constantly question whether I can actually paint. My inner thoughts, every few minutes, are: ‘Can I do this? Am I doing this right? Does it look anything like what’s in front of me? Does it actually resemble what I’m trying to paint?’ These thoughts evoke feelings of insecurity, excitement, concern, fear, and even a sense of risk that is required of me to take.

Love: Through painting, I am fulfilling the need for love. My daughter and I share love and joy by spending time together. In sharing her passion, she also shares her love and joy with me. At the same time, I am cultivating self-love by making time for myself and allowing space to learn and discover something I might truly enjoy.

Growth: Through painting, I am fulfilling my need for growth. By cultivating patience and experiencing a therapeutic and meditative state, I am further developing my presence and nurturing a positive mindset. To top it off, I am also improving both my visual and painting skills.

Contribution: From painting, I am fulfilling the need for contribution. Both my daughter and I are contributing to each other – by setting aside our individual tasks and making time for each other. She guides me with her tips and tricks, while I embrace her guidance.

My accepting her guidance is a way of contributing to her in a reciprocal way, as she generously shares her tips and tricks. She creates art to give as gifts, and I create pieces for my family to enjoy as home decorations.

Most importantly, we contributed to each other’s experience and growth, making each passing second a valuable, memorable experience.

It’s amazing that when you choose one thing, you can fulfill a number of needs that can help you find balance in a short period of time. For this reason, doing something creative is crucial for developing your mind.

What is something small and creative you are willing to commit to taking on this week to celebrate the New Year?

For me, it was painting. What might that be for you?

Is it also painting, or drawing, or writing a poem, a short story, or a song, playing the piano for 20 minutes 2-3 times this week, playing chess or some sort of board game with a family member or with friends, repotting plants, decorating your room, making a small craft, making jewellery, knitting, cooking or baking, or creating recipes. In essence, the first thing you will want to choose is the very thing that inspires you the most.
